RØROS CHURCH: You can combine a guided walking tour of Røros (see below) with a guided tour of the church. The church, which is called "Bergstadens Ziir", was built "to the glory of God and to adorn the town" on the 15th of August 1784. The Norwegian Directorate of Cultural Heritage considers it to be amongst the ten most important churches in Norway and it is also known as "the mountain cathedral". It deserves its name, as its towers majestically rise over the wooden houses at the top of the town.

It is the fourth largest in the country, with 1,600 seats. the author Johan Falkberget named the baroque church "the mountain cathedral".

A guided walking tour through Røros gives you insight in how people lived and worked in this unique little mining town. The walk takes you past fascinating buildings, courtyards that indicate these were once farms in the centre of town and the monumental slag heaps where you will get an overview of the town.

Røros itself is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

NOTE! Due to restoration the church is closed until december 2010.
